Es ist der dritte Film der Actionreihe „Bad Boys“. Während „Bad Boys“ (1995) und „Bad Boys II“ (2003) von Explosionsexperte Michael Bay inszeniert wurden, gab es für Teil drei einen Wechsel hin zum Regie-Duo Bilall Fallah und Adil El Arbi. Mit einem Budget von 90 Millionen Dollar hat „Bad Boys For Life“ allein in den USA 204 Millionen Dollar eingespielt und ist damit der bislang umsatzstärkste Film des Jahres.
Mike Lowrey (Smith) und Marcus Burnett (Lawrence) arbeiten erfolgreich als Drogenfahnder der Polizei von Miami, doch Burnett denkt mehr und mehr an den Ruhestand. Erst ein Mordanschlag an seinen Partner holt ihn zurück in den Dienst. Wie gewohnt fliegen die one-liner genauso scharf wie die Patronen, während das Duo auf einen alten Bekannten trifft, der auf Rache aus ist.
